Our Mission

Our mission is to educate our communities about the importance and impact of Black history in Esmont and the incredible stories of our families and community members. We want future generations to know these stories and be inspired by the lives of those that came before.

What We’ve Achieved

Oral History Day 2018: On October 27, 2018, YSCC Heritage & History hosted Community Day. We invited members of our community to come out and share their stories of attending Yancey and growing up in Esmont.

YSCC Exhibiton: African American Education in Esmont: Making a Way Out of No Way: Our exhibition was installed in 2021. It shares the history and importance of African American Education in Esmont.
