About Us

Oral
Histories

Rooted in traditions of memory and storytelling, these accounts help preserve the experiences of those whose lives and contributions were often left out of written records due to intersecting barriers of race, class, and geography.

By combining oral narratives with research into existing documents, we form a stronger, more complete picture of Esmont’s history- one grounded in both lived experience and archival evidence. As a part of our mission to educate and inspire, these oral histories contribute to deepening public understanding of Esmont’s rich history.

Oral history remains one of the most reliable ways to trace the untold stories of Esmont’s Black community.
